Vitamins and Supplements

Vitamins and Supplements...hmmmm....

Here you will find some thoughts on vitamins and supplements and the ones that I take. Keep in mind that I take things that make sense. Period. There will be none of the "miracle pill" nonsense. Just simply the things I have tried, or am currently taking that I feel has helped me. If you have any questions about whether or not you should be taking a certain supplement, please always consult with
your doctor.
Vitamins and supplements are great, but you have to be careful and make sure you are going about it the right way, and remember, too much of a good thing can be bad.
If you are eating plenty of raw vegetables and fruits, you really shouldn't have to supplement too much. :) I hope you find this page helpful!

Here are just a few that I like to take:

A Total Enzyme.
I take this supplement to help aid my digestion. As a person with Celiac Disease, my digestion can struggle. These enzymes are great because your body doesn't become dependent on them. They also help food be broken down in the smallest particles possible so digestion can be optimized.

Pre and Probiotic
This little gem is a wonderful supplement. A healthy digestive tract is key to feeling well. Having the proper balance of bacteria in your digestive tract ill aid in that. I especially like this product because the ingredients are high quality and I definitely feel them work. It is also very important to be taking some sort of probiotic if you have taken any kind of antibiotic recently. Healthy flora=healthy intestines. I use one from NutraNomics that I feel is high quality and I notice a difference when I use it.

Turmeric Curcumin Pure
Turmeric is an ancient spice that has been known for it's anti-inflammatory properties. I like this one when I am feeling really sore from working out, or am having some pain. It also helps some people to have clear skin and better immune system. Click on Turmeric Curcumin Pure above to learn more.

A good whole food multi-vitamin: these are important especially if you cook most of your vegetables and don't buy a lot of fresh local produce. I would just be careful that the doses of each vitamin is not too high. you can usually find out what is the daily recommended intake on nutrition.gov. You also don't need a bunch of added stuff. Vitamin A (from beta-carotenes is the safest), Vitamin E, all the Vitamin B's (just watch out on B6, as a lot of companies like to put too much), Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Calcium are the essentials. Check the source of each vitamin to ensure their quality, it is best if you can't get ones that aren't synthetic.

A word of caution: Several minerals have similar chemical properties and the same chemical charge, which means some of them will compete with each other for absorption in the intestines. If we overwhelm absorption sites with any of these minerals we will make ourselves deficient in another supplement. For example over supplementing with calcium could cause magnesium deficiency. Minerals are important but they don’t need to be taken in excess (some of the major ones include: iron, iodine, fluoride, calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, zinc, chromium and sodium). Be smart about which supplements you take because the body doesn’t have an adequate way to eliminate excess amounts of most of these minerals, and even some vitamins.

Omegas: Food for the brain! These are so important! I would recommend everyone takes an omega supplement daily. I buy a lemon flavored liquid one from Costco. Make sure it doesn't have a bunch of added ingredients and that it doesn't contain mercury.
